Axis Deer Hunting

Axis Deer

The Axis Deer, or chital deer, are native to India, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. In the 1860s they were introduced into the habitat at Molokai, Hawaii. The axis was then introduced to Texas in the 1930s as a game animal.

This breed is considered to be one of the most beautiful due to its orange coat, large size, massive antlers, and tasty meat.

Males’ antlers can have three to six points and weigh up to 250 pounds while the females are slightly smaller.

The Axis Deer is known to be especially vocal, and has often been compared to the elk.

Males may even bugle during mating season.
